Shanghai Cooperation Organization considers Iran's membership
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (SCO) Secretary General
Muratbek Imanaliyev said that Islamic Republic of Iran's request for
membership at SCO is under study, IRNA reported.
Imanaliyev told state-run Russia's Voice that a request for membership by Iran like requests by other countries is at the center of attention and a special working group deals with these issues.
"The important point is that according to a document by SCO, there is an article which says that the countries being under sanctions of the United Nations cannot become a SCO member," he added.
Imanaliyev, however, said that this does not mean that Ira's membership request would be ignored.
